A private lender is usually an individual who uses their capital to finance investments, such as real estate, and profits from interest paid on the loan. Private lenders are not affiliated with a bank or other financial institution and instead interact directly with the borrower.

A private lender could be anyone who want's to invest in real estate, but prefers to do it more passively

A private lender could also be a a real estate investor (of all expert levels) interested in lending on a real estate deal and making a double digit returns on their money.

A private lenders loan is secured by the property on which they are lending on. The property(real estate) serves as a collateral for the private lenders loan.
